New provisions for electric scooters

The latest legal changes set out the rules you must follow while riding an electric scooter, as well as the fines for non-compliance. They were adopted due to the growing use of electric scooters as a means of transportation in urban areas.

Areas where electric scooter riding is allowed

The driver of an electric scooter is obliged to drive the vehicle on a bicycle path or bicycle lane, and if they are not built, on a pedestrian path, ie another area intended for pedestrian movement. If two or more electric scooter riders move in a group, they are obliged to move one behind the other.

If there is a specially arranged bicycle path, bicycle lane, sidewalk or pedestrian path on the road, the driver of the electric scooter is obliged to drive the vehicle on the right bicycle path, bicycle lane, sidewalk or pedestrian path in relation to the direction of traffic.

On a bicycle path, bicycle lane, sidewalk or pedestrian path, arranged and marked for traffic on electric scooters in both directions, they move on the right side in the direction of movement of vehicles.

The driver of an electric scooter can move only on those traffic areas where movement with such vehicles is allowed, ie the same must not move on a bicycle path or lane at a speed higher than 25 km / h.

Also, the driver of an electric scooter must not move on the sidewalk, pedestrian path or other area intended for pedestrian movement, with a speed higher than 6 km / h.

Fines

Misdemeanor fine  in the amount of 80 Euros in denar counter value will be issued, in accordance with the provisions of this Law, to the driver who will operate the electric scooter on surfaces contrary to the rules above.

Misdemeanor fine  in the amount of 120 euros in denar counter value will be issued, in accordance with the provisions of this law, to the driver who will move at a speed higher than 25 km / h, ie at a speed higher than 6 km / h on foot. path or other area intended for pedestrians.

A misdemeanor fine in the amount of 80 euros in denar counter value will be issued to the parent, ie the guardian of a child who will operate the electric scooter on surfaces contrary to the rules above.

Misdemeanor fine in the amount of 120 euros in denar counter value will be issued to the parent, ie the guardian of a child who will move at a speed higher than 25 km / h, ie at a higher speed than 6 km / h on a pedestrian path surface intended for pedestrians.

Manner of riding

The driver of an electric scooter is obliged to drive the vehicle in a way that does not reduce the stability of the vehicle and does not hinder other traffic participants, and in particular must not take his hands off the steering wheel, adhere to another vehicle, transport, pulls or pushes objects that may interfere with the driving of the vehicle or endanger other road users.

Fines

Misdemeanor fine in the amount of 50 euros in denar counter-value will be issued to the driver who acts contrary to these rules.

Misdemeanor fine in the amount of 50 euros in denar counter value will be issued to the parent, ie the guardian of a child who acts contrary to the rules

Who can operate an electric scooter

An electric scooter can be operated by a person who has reached the age of 14. The driver of an electric scooter must not carry other persons while driving the vehicle.

Misdemeanor fine in the amount of 50 euros in denar counter value will be issued to the driver who will transport other persons during the driving.

Misdemeanor fine in the amount of 50 euros in denar counter value will be issued to the parent, ie the guardian of a child who operates an electric scooter and is 14 years old.

Protective gear

The driver of an electric scooter should wear a protective helmet while driving. The driver of an electric scooter, from the first twilight to complete dawn, as well as in conditions of reduced visibility, is obliged to wear a reflective vest while driving the vehicle.

Misdemeanor fine in the amount of 50 euros in denar counter value will be issued to the parent, ie the guardian of a child who will not wear a reflective vest.
